From the City of Windsor Heights:

Construction on 73rd Street in Windsor Heights will begin on May 6thStage 6 (Wilshire to El Rancho) will be the first stage of the project.

Thru traffic will be detoured to 63rd St. for the duration of the construction. For Winter 2024, when construction is shut down for the season, 73rd St. will be open to all traffic. The construction will be completed in six phases with Stage four coordinated to correspond with the school summer break. The contractor will have 300 working days to complete the entire project.  Local traffic will be able to access the portions of 73rd St. not actively under construction.

Stages for construction on 73rd Street in Windsor Heights

Most businesses on 73rd St. have two access drives and one will remain open at all times during the construction project. Signage will be placed at Hickman and University Ave. notifying drivers that businesses are open. For businesses with a single driveway, access will be maintained to the business with gravel access except during any active construction work directly in front of the driveway. This construction work would typically be scheduled for a weekend during off-peak business hours.

A detour to 63rd Street will be required during construction on 73rd Street in Windsor Heights.

During construction stages 1 and 2, the trail along 73rd will be closed. There is not a clear alternative trail route. Staff is considering requiring the contractor to place a sign of the area trail system south of University Ave. and at School St. indicating the trail closure. Alternatively, the city could provide a trail detour, but it would likely need to include the use of sidewalks and potentially the street.
